zippy I love my internets late at night. During the day it's slow-poke city. Also, hey! I am totally still around lurking reading lj daily while I slave away for the British Columbia court system. I saw this video posted on the interwebs and it gave me a good giggle in the middle of my boring Monday of work. It is the best Conan skit ever. What is that demonry? Everyone flee! Current Mood: amused | | Monday, May 28th, 2007 | | 5:31 pm |
Oh, Canada ...
Miss Canada's national costume at the Miss Universe Pageant. Ahahaha! It could only be better if she were leading a moose and holding a beer, eh? The high-heeled boots painted to look like athletic socks are a nice touch though. I wore this exact outfit earlier to do some gardening:
and of course, in the USA, we've adopted the bedazzled polyester fashion stylings of our favorite dead rock icon as our national costume (Miss USA, you can't win in PANTS).
You can see all the hilarity in goofy national costumes here: Miss Universe '07 costumes from the ONTD LJ community Current Mood: impressed | | Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 | | 12:46 am |
heroes shmeroes.
Why couldn't Peter just fly away by himself? He can fly; right? And if he somehow forgot how to fly, wouldn't he remember once his brother stood near him? So why did he need someone else to fly with him? Why was it better for two people to bite it instead of just one? I know "the future ... is not ... written in stone", but why can't it make sense? Why? WHY? Stupid Heroes. (except Hiro & Ando, who I still love dearly) Current Mood: aggravated | | Sunday, April 15th, 2007 | | 7:11 pm |

Back to the grind...sorta.
I'm so busy. I started a cushy home-based job thanks to some help & training from a super awesome fellow lj-er (who shall remain nameless because she doesn't need you all hassling her for super awesome jobs). I am doing something called "scoping" for court reporters, which makes me a Scopist. You've probably never heard of it, but it is cool and you can do it in your pajamas. Since hooking up with a reporting firm downtown to do some scoping, I have also been roped into LEAVING the house and venturing to the horrible depths of downtown to help in another area the reporting firm covers: I will be a Hearing Registrar for non-court type hearings held by a professional association. I do not get to wear my pajamas, but I do get to make people swear or affirm to tell the truth (fair trade-off?). I also have to take minutes and stamp exhibits - doesn't this sound important and exciting? No? Well, I can't get out of it now. I don't think I'll have to do it that often, just when someone within this professional association has been bad and needs a beat-down. Still, I hate going downtown, the SkyTrain, parking at the SkyTrain, uncomfortable business pants, shoes and leaving the house in general. So much for my leisurely life on the couch eating bon bons and watching Oprah all day ... Sigh. I'm hoping to make enough dough to treat Rob (and myself) to a long Italy/France vacation, that should make all the suffering and pants working worthwhile. painting post
For my grandmother who keeps asking where my Superman painting is: Here it is beside the comic book image that inspired it: Comic book Superman is very surly and has a gigantic neck. Here he is framed: This was Rob's Christmas present, he loves angry Superman. Detail - this painting is in oil, 7 x 9 inches and I had to use teeny brushes for most of it: I'm happy with how it turned out. The ear and hands were difficult. The face was hard because of the weird angle and I think it is a little squished, but overall it looks pretty good - from a distance it looks great! Angry Batman is on the easel now - nothing says "Happy Valentine's Day!" like a moody guy in tights and a cape. | | Wednesday, January 10th, 2007 | | 1:40 pm |

It's SNOWPOCALPYSE SUCKFEST 2K7
Seriously, when does all the global warming start? I'm totally ready. The only good thing about snow is that I get to use a Walken lj picture that I yanked from someone a few weeks ago. In other news: Yesterday my house was flooded with natural, smelly, explosive gas and I didn't know why - it seemed to be coming from my heating vents but I was too afraid to go into the basement to check all the gas powered things and risk blowing up because I have an irrational fear of gas (I rarely ever use our 2 gas powered fireplaces). I had to call the emergency gas leak line and it was all very dramatic when the guy on the phone told me not to turn on/off anything, use the phone (even though I was using it talking to him), or cough too hard. He also told me to open up windows to air out the house and perhaps put on a sweater since it was really cold out. I told him repeatedly that I was very afraid (which I'm sure made him giggle) and he explained that it shouldn't be more than an hour or two before the service guy came by to check things out. While I was waiting, I began to hope that something smelling like rotten eggs hadn't just crawled into my garage and died and worried how I'd explain that if it was so. Thankfully, the service guy got there in 14 minutes (I was counting) and determined that the crazy wind storm we had yesterday made my hot water heater's pilot light burn out and then the gas got sucked up by the furnace and sprayed throughout the house. We solved the problem by turning off the hot water heater until the winds died down and airing out. Hurray! It was also my birthday....I always like to celebrate with a (possibly devastating) bang. Have A Safe & Happy New Year! :) | | Sunday, December 24th, 2006 | | 3:57 pm |
Merry Christmas, Y'all!

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. I'm still trying to finish up a painting I'm giving Rob for Christmas, but otherwise we are set to have big time fun tomorrow. I'll attempt the annual "dogs in santa suits" photos later and will post if they are successful. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night. :) Current Mood: cheerful | | Sunday, December 10th, 2006 | | 3:11 pm |
007 review sans lasers
We went to see the new James Bond movie, Casino Royale, last week. We are huge Bond fans (we even have the DVD box sets, my friend) - but this Bond was a bit different from the norm. First off, there were no laser beams. None. What is up with that? There is ALWAYS a laser or two. Additionally, there were no sharks and of course, no sharks with laser beams. This was a more realistic film and "grittier" would probably be the best description. Bond is allowed to fail, lose and bleed in this movie which is novel. I fondly recall fight scenes in earlier Bond movies where hardly a hair would be out of place following a big scuffle - this Bond has to clean himself up. Bond wore teeny swim trunks TWICE in this movie and while I didn't understand the relation to the plot, I was OK with it. The villains were not as silly/amusing as usual (and there was no super-villain in a wheelchair!), I think they were really going for something more realistic here as well. The action sequences were consistently entertaining. I think the only disappointing thing were the Bond girls - they were beautiful but slightly boring characters. At some point towards the end, I lost track of who all the villains were. It is much easier when there is just one mad scientist guy (in a wheelchair or in space, with laser beam sharks). This is probably not the movie's fault, I just can't concentrate for more than 2 hours at a time. Tack on the 30 minutes of commercials (*see note) and previews and we were there for 3 hours. Overall, I was impressed with Daniel Craig as 007 and I highly recommend the movie as an enjoyable way to kill a few hours. *Note - Why do I have to sit through 20 minutes of commercials (before the previews) when I go see a movie now? Isn't paying $40 for popcorn and a drink enough punishment? Current Mood: impressed | | Tuesday, November 28th, 2006 | | 3:58 pm |
Atypically Sucktastic Hey Aimee ! Just found your site ! Kool ! You're a real cutie ! And HOT ! Your url is posted in the text book for a college class I'm taking -- Human Sexuality In a World of Diversity,6th edition page 572-573. Chapter 17-- Atypical Sexual Variations. Very interesting. Will check it out regularly. John B.ahahaha Thanks John B.! I'm textbook famous in an atypical sexual variations way - beat that, internets. I have heard of this before and someone even sent me a scan of the page a few years back - but I thought they would have updated the edition by now. Some professor at UBC used to assign papers on my site, every semester I'd get the same lists of questions from eager students desperate to have the most unintelligible thesis on the planet. Their disappointment that there were no hidden meanings behind a webcam site was amusing and I often considered making up wild stories just to ensure they had interesting papers. They seemed doubly confused when they realized there was actually no sex or nudity on my site...and that I liked to watch my dogs on camera when I was at work (you know - back when I did actually work). Poor students. :( Also, we are STILL SNOWED IN AND MAY FREEZE ANY SECOND. Various lj people are calling this snow disaster Snowpocalypse 06, but I will call it SuckFest because it is easier to spell. It is dachshund deep (or one and a half chihuahuas) outside and shows no sign of stopping. We are hunkered down - we are hoping not to die of coldness and starvation. Sleighbells ring............
IT'S SNOWING! Let the panic throughout the Vancouver area begin. It's going to be snowing 5 cm tonight ya'll!!! Which sounds so awesome until you realize that is only around 2 inches. Stupid metric system. The snow warning issued by the weather service is both dramatic and terrifying: A STRENGTHENING ARCTIC RIDGE OVER THE BRITISH COLUMBIA INTERIOR IS PUSHING COLD ARCTIC AIR UP AGAINST THE EAST SLOPES OF THE NORTH AND CENTRAL COAST MOUNTAINS. STRONG OUTFLOW WINDS HAVE DEVELOPED THROUGH THE VALLEYS AND INLETS AS THE ARCTIC AIR RUSHES THROUGH THE GAPS TOWARDS THE COAST. AS THE HIGH CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN WINDS WILL INCREASE AND TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE TO FALL RESULTING IN WINDCHILLS IN THE MINUS 20 TO MINUS 30 RANGE. THESE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO PERSIST FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THE ARCTIC AIR IS MAKING ITS WAY THROUGH THE VALLEYS OF THE SOUTH COAST AND WILL ARRIVE IN THE LOWER MAINLAND BY SUNDAY MORNING. AN INTENSIFYING LOW OVER THE PACIFIC WILL APPROACH WASHINGTON STATE SUNDAY MORNING. THE MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH THE LOW WILL INTERACT WITH THE ARCTIC AIR GIVING SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL FOR MUCH OF THE SOUTH COAST BEGINNING TONIGHT. 10 CM OF SNOW IS EXPECTED FOR THE QUEEN CHARLOTTES AND 20 TO 30 CM OF SNOW IS EXPECTED FOR THE OTHER REGIONS BY SUNDAY EVENING. THE SNOW HAS CHANGED TO RAIN IN THE WEST VANCOUVER ISLAND REGION AND AS A RESULT THE WARNING HAS BEEN ENDED. OMG! ♪♪♪♪...walking in a winter wonderland...♪♪♪♪ Current Mood: cold | | Wednesday, November 8th, 2006 | | 1:39 pm |
Oh No!
Apple has dumped the Mac Guy from its commercials because viewers hated his annoying hoodie wearing ways and came away from the commercials liking the nerdy PC guy. Mac guy (Justin Long) is described as a "smug little twit" and "just the sort of unshaven, hoodie-wearing, hands-in-pockets hipster we've always imagined when picturing a Mac enthusiast.... It's like Apple is parodying its own image while also cementing it." ahaha! PC guy (John Hodgeman) will keep doing the commercials. I do have an unreasonable hatred for Macs, not because of the machine itself, but because every single person that I've known personally who uses them has turned out to be a slimeball - why is that???? I'm sure there are decent people who use Macs, but I think Macs do attract slimeballs who consider themselves "arty" and "different" which is often another way of saying "cheating bastard" and "succubus loser" - that wouldn't be a good ad campaign though. *edit - My grandmother uses a Mac, but she can not be classified as the typical Mac user since she is a victim of i-gifting.* A tribute to Mac Guy: Current Mood: not bitter! | | Thursday, November 2nd, 2006 | | 11:32 am |
Oops it's a baby. Woman's tummy ache turns out to be surprise baby boy“I don’t know how I didn’t know. I just didn’t know” Seriously. Call me a hypochondriac, but if I gain 30 pounds and it's all a weird basketball shape concentrated in my abdomen and for some stupid reason I don't suspect pregnancy - I'll at least go to the doctor to get the tumor removed.
